Hair Loss & Shedding

What causes hair loss?

Hair loss has many possible causes, including hereditary pattern loss, hormonal changes, medical conditions, medications, major physical or emotional stress, rapid weight loss, postpartum changes and certain hairstyles or hair-care practices. Because the cause matters, a medical provider or dermatologist is the right person to diagnose an underlying medical condition. Another Look can evaluate visible hair and scalp changes and explain supportive or cosmetic options.

How can I stop hair loss?

There is no single treatment that stops every type of hair loss. The most useful thing to establish is the likely cause and pattern. Some causes improve when the trigger is addressed; others may respond to medications, low-level laser therapy or other treatments. If loss is sudden, severe, painful or associated with other symptoms, talk with a medical provider.

How much daily hair shedding is normal?

Dermatology resources generally describe losing about 50 to 100 hairs per day as normal. A widening part, visible thinning, bald spots or a meaningful increase in shedding can be signs that something has changed.

Does stress cause hair loss?

Yes. Significant physical or emotional stress can trigger a temporary shedding pattern that often appears after the stressful event. Other causes can look similar, so persistent or severe shedding should be evaluated appropriately.

Can Ozempic, Wegovy, Zepbound or rapid weight loss cause hair shedding?

Hair shedding can occur during periods of rapid weight loss or major nutritional and metabolic change. People taking GLP-1 medications may notice shedding during that process. Discuss medication concerns with the prescribing clinician; Another Look can help with visible hair and scalp support or cosmetic options.

When does postpartum hair loss start and how long can it last?

Postpartum shedding commonly begins a few months after childbirth as the hair cycle shifts back toward its usual pattern. Many people improve with time, but the timeline varies. If shedding is severe, prolonged or accompanied by other symptoms, discuss it with your healthcare provider.

Can vitamin or iron deficiencies contribute to hair loss?

Deficiencies in nutrients such as iron or vitamin D can be associated with hair loss in some people, but supplements are not a universal solution. Too much of certain nutrients can also be harmful. A medical provider can determine whether testing or supplementation is appropriate.

Can dandruff or scalp problems cause hair loss?

Scalp inflammation, infection, intense scratching or certain scalp disorders can contribute to breakage or shedding. Dandruff itself does not explain every type of hair loss. Persistent redness, pain, scaling or sudden loss should be evaluated by a medical provider or dermatologist.

Treatments & Scalp Care

What is the best treatment for hair loss?

The best treatment depends on the cause, pattern, stage of hair loss, scalp condition and your goals. Options may include medical treatment, minoxidil, low-level laser therapy, scalp-focused care, hair replacement or a combination. Another Look helps organize supportive and cosmetic options but does not provide medical diagnosis or prescription treatment.

Do hair loss treatments actually work?

Some treatments have evidence for specific types of hair loss, but no treatment works for every person or every cause. Earlier treatment can matter for some conditions, and most growth-focused options require time and consistency. A realistic plan depends on understanding what type of loss you may be dealing with.

Does laser treatment work for hair loss?

Low-level laser therapy is a non-invasive option used for some types of hair loss. The American Academy of Dermatology and Mayo Clinic both describe evidence of benefit for some people, while noting that repeated treatments are usually required and individual response varies.

What is Alma TED?

Alma TED is a non-invasive in-office hair and scalp treatment paired with the TED+ Hair Care Formula. It is designed to support the appearance and quality of thinning hair without needles. A consultation is needed to determine whether it fits your situation.

What is a trichology or scalp analysis visit?

A trichology-focused visit looks at visible scalp condition, hair density, shedding patterns, hair history and routines to create a clearer baseline. Another Look uses this information to organize supportive or cosmetic options. It is not a medical diagnosis.

Hair Systems & Extensions

How long do hair systems last?

Longevity depends on the type of system, material, attachment method, activity level, home care and maintenance. Another Look has historically advised that human-hair systems may last from several months up to about a year, while some CyberHair systems may last longer. Your specialist can give a more realistic expectation for the exact system you choose.

Can I sleep, swim or exercise in a hair system?

Many modern hair systems are designed for active daily life, including sleep, exercise and water activities. The attachment method and maintenance plan should be selected for your lifestyle.

Can hair extensions damage my natural hair?

Extensions can stress natural hair if they are too heavy, installed improperly, maintained poorly or worn with too much tension. A professional assessment of your natural hair helps determine whether extensions are appropriate and which method is safest for your situation.

Visits, Insurance & Payment

Does insurance cover a wig or cranial prosthesis?

Coverage varies by insurance plan. Another Look does not participate directly with insurance plans, but eligible cranial prosthetics or hair-replacement purchases may qualify for reimbursement through some insurance, HSA, FSA or HRA arrangements. The clinic can provide appropriate purchase documentation after the balance is paid in full.

What is Another Look's cancellation policy?

Another Look asks clients to call the clinic as soon as possible if an appointment must be changed. The clinic's published policy requests at least 24 hours' notice and notes that a $50 fee, or the cost of the service booked, may be charged for a missed appointment without that notice.

How can I finance a treatment or purchase?

Another Look offers applications through Cherry. Cherry determines approval, terms and payment options. You can review the dedicated Cherry application from the Financing page.

How do I schedule my first visit?

Use the Schedule a Consultation form or call 517-484-5062. You do not need to know which treatment or service you need before scheduling; the purpose of the first conversation is to help narrow the options.
